Mega Christmas Tree Topper

Build A Mega Tree Topper

Below is the old way we use to build tree toppers. This was a great way to build one in the pass. We now sell an affordable hook head that will last a long time. If you buy the hook alone at Lowes, it would cost you $21.00 and the bun foot would cost $8.00 to $10.00. Please visit our store to see the Standard hook head and other mega tree parts we now carry.

This piece is called the topper and is what will hold your lights, star and make the point of the tree.

To make this piece you will need the following:

  1. (16) hooks
  2. (1) bun foot (round piece of wood found at Lowes)
  3. (1) 3 1/2" to 1 1/2" metal flange
  4. 1 1/2" male adapter to 1 1/4" female
  5. 1-1 1/4" pvc pipe cut to 18"s
  6. 1/2" masking tape.
Step #1(image 1): Take the round piece of wood and wrap a piece of 1/2" masking tape around the center as shown in the image.

Step #4

Step #5 (image 5): Place hook over predrilled holes and fasten till tight. Make sure each hook is up against the other hook. If you leave a gap you will have to grind the last hook to finish. If you keep them all together they will all fit perfectly.

Step # 7 (image 7 & image 8): On one side of the bun foot you will see a threaded stud sticking out. You can remove this by using a pair of pliers and then drill a hole big enough to slide in a 1/2" of pvc pipe to strap a star to or you can leave it in and find a 1" tall nut and add an extension of all thread that is the same size as the threaded part sticking out..

Step #8 (image 9): Place the flange on the bottom of the bun foot and attach it using four drywall screws.

Notes: The circumference of the bun foot (round wood) is 16" and each of the 16 hooks is 1" wide. Make sure each hook is flush against the other and they will all fit on the bun foot with no problems.

To finalize the top piece you will need to glue your 1 1/4" pvc pipe into the1 1/2" to 1 1/4" male adapter, Then screw the male adapter into the metal flange.
